The Ischell contact microphone is the basic system for a Kora or N’goni, a low-volume instrument often confronted with high levels on stage. It is recognized for its fidelity to acoustics, its resistance to feedback, the ease of use on amp and the possibility to use effects, to make clean loops and so on. The X-Jack is the most sold, appreciated for its Jack and XLR outputs available simultaneously, the 9v battery and also because it is removable and does not require any intervention on the instrument, but the system can remain permanently installed inside. The microphone is placed under the bridge for the Kora and on the crossbars for the N’goni. The other version often chosen is the inside J48C, system to be installed in the Kora, with option 9v battery and volume knob …
To go further, for even more naturalness and respect of acoustics, you can choose to associate an aerial mic to the contact microphone to adapt to any situation. The 2X48AC is perfect for that.
Choose your system based on:
The AirCapt air microphone is generally used in addition to a contact microphone on kora or n’goni. It is a very small microphone designed to be placed closer to the sound source for more gain, less feedback and ambient sounds. Particularly suited to acoustic stages, it faithfully and very naturally reproduces the sound of your instrument with precision, dynamics and allows comfortable levels on stage without microphone stand. It is usually placed inside under the bridge.

The J48A below is the best-selling of this category. Removable, this system can be powered by phantom power and provide a balanced signal with a Jack-Stereo / XLR cable. It can also with the 9v battery option, operate with a standard mono jack cable. It is then powered by the 9v battery automatically for about 500 hours of use. The battery will not discharge in the presence of phantom power.
The inside J48A is the installed version of the J48A described above. Drilling is therefore required. Same possibilities …
The contact microphone is typically used as a base system on a kora or n’goni. The X-Jack model is the most sold because it is removable, but also for its two separate outputs Jack and XLR usable simultaneously. It therefore does not require intervention on the instrument while being able to remain permanently installed inside. The contact microphone is placed under the bridge for the Kora and on the crossbars for the N’goni, so it is invisible and protected.
Another very popular model for the kora is the inside J48C with 9v battery option and volume knob. This model is installed in the instrument. The drilling is required for the jack and the volume knob. You can then use the system with an unbalanced jack or with a balanced jack ( Jack-stereo / XLR cable )
The ischell contact microphone is a reference for string acoustic instruments that have to be performed on stages with high levels. It’s the sound of a microphone, natural and faithful, with the feedback resistance of a pickup. You can easily use it in an amp, apply effects and make clean loops…
The X-Jack described above is a removable system that is placed inside the instrument, the microphone is placed under the bridge and the system on the handle for example with scratch.
The Inside J48C is an installed version, so drilling is required. It has a volume knob option and 9v battery. Without 9v battery option, the system works on phantom power and the output is balanced. With the 9v battery option, the system also works with a standard mono jack, useful for using effect pedals for example.
The X48C, removable model. XLR output, work with phantom power.
The combination of the two types of microphones is complementary for an instrument playing on electro stages and optimizes the sound in all situations by combining power and respect of the acoustic sound of the instrument.
The contact microphone gives you the power for the front / back, high accuracy in bass and midrange, dynamics … The aerial microphone brings you the reverberations of the instrument, player details, the air, the finesse in the treble. For situations that require high levels on stage and front and to have an acoustic sound, faithful to the instrument.
